Must Read: How NFL Cheats its Black Coaches
The Superbowl didn’t have to try hard to be racially inclusive this year.
The competing teams’ two black head coaches provided an easy entry point to discuss race. They also changed the color of Superbowl commercials that featured all kinds of black characters, such as the Frito Lay one that unimpressively linked eating corn chips to black family bonding and black history.
Still, the NFL struggles with racial equity. Jarad Sanchez, a researcher with the Applied Research Center, argues this in his latest article “Beyond the Superbowl: Race and Pro-Football.”
Not only does the league pay its black coaches much less than whites, but it also requires they have more experience than white coaches. This piece is well-worth reading and revisiting!

If you're going to slap up a big picture of Tony Dungy on a progressive blog, it would be appreciated if you'd also note his work and fundraising for an anti-gay hate group, the Indiana Family Institute. See here.
Homophobia in professional sports has been much in the news this week, and those who are concerned with oppression in sports should note these depressing developments.
