Racial Makeover for Health Care in Jersey
The New Jersey Department of Health is trying to put the squash on racial disparity according to its new report on the state’s disproportionate number of Blacks and Latinos hit by HIV/AIDS, obesity and diabetes.
From the Kaiser Foundation:
Language barriers; disparities in income, education and health care access; and the poverty rate are factors in racial health disparities, according to the report.
While the report advocates hiring minority health care workers and managers, it doesn’t call for increased funding to bridge the employment gap or other disparities like access to health insurance that keep many people of color from seeking medical services.
