Presidential Hopefuls to Spar at Black College

The first Democratic presidential debate of the 2008 season will be at a historically black college, Black America Web reported.

But will the debate be historically racial justice-focused?

All eight top-Democratic candidates are expected to show up next Thursday to South Caroline State University in a debate that’ll mark only the second time a presidential debate has taken place at a Black college.

But is this going to be another Selma March re-enactment?

Adam Biggs, a professor at Claflin University in South Carolina, hopes not.

“It is an important symbolic gesture that the Democratic Party is trying to make by bringing the debate here,” he told Black America Web. “I look forward to seeing to what extent they will be dealing with issues that are relevant to race, to African-Americans living in the south in rural communities and lower socio-economic communities.”

Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
