Emotions Run High over War, Black Voice, Lowered

The View’s Rosie and Elizabeth locked horns again this week over the news that’s got everyone worried and frustrated—the disastrous War in Iraq.

I’ve never seen the two co-hosts make such heart-felt critiques of the other. But what’s more surprising is the lack of input on the war debate from the only Black co-anchor who has been the shoe-in Black perspective ever since Star Jones left the show. If this clip were a measure, it’d seem Blacks were running from the war problem and solution.

Check this out and let me know what you think.

That seems unfair to me. Isn't that tokenizing?

I'm a longtime fan of the View. But that show's racial politics are messed up. From the tokenizing of Lisa Ling to Star Jones. But here's my point: if you're gonna have a token on your show, have a progressive person of color that has more to talk about than her bust size.

Overall, the view has failed to install a permanent person of color on its show since Jones left. Rather, it features a rotating spot designated for a different woman of color guest-host a week, as if to say that we are some kind of exchangeable hair-piece. It's good to have us around but not keep us on too long... then things start itchin.

And now that Rosie O'Donnell, the only openly gay co-host,is leaving, the show that aims to be the voice of women will hardly constitute "The View"
