“What Black Men Think”: there’s a “Market for Niggas”
A video documentary movement “What Black Men Think” sprung up recently and is circulating provocative YouTube pieces around the internet.
The one here, a spoken word video featuring Taalam Acey, has gained some traction for its brutal honesty. Acey gives some of the best analysis on the dynamic relationship between money, Hip Hop, racism and sexism.
Check it. And let us know if you agree with his “Market for Niggas” theory.

Yes I agree there is a market promoting Black folx to act ignorant a modern day minstrel show if you will. Although I wouldn’t necessarily tout Talib Kweli and Mos Def as our modern day saviors of Hip Hop. It would be beautiful to get away from these extremes of Niggas/Bitches vs. King/Queens the latter is still laced with patriarchy and queer brothers and sisters are invisible or if we are visible the image is often negative. All that to say there is definitely a market for Niggas but the market for patriarchy/queerphobia is less evident and just as problematic.

Thank you for this. The Market for Niggas is a modern-day slave market.

Honestly I believe the Niggaz/Bitches vs. Kings/Queens dynamic is like Marilyn said, are essentially the same thing. Why is it that to have value as human beings, we have to be descended from rich people? Why is it that we have to make women property to "respect" them? The whole conversation reminds me of common saying something like "women are our greatest natural resource". Objectifying is Objectifying, no matter how positively you try to spin it.
