Obama Crush Video: “Black n sexy, you’re so fine”
“I Got a Crush…On Obama” By Obama Girl
This video has been viewed more than 1 million times on YouTube since it was posted a little over a week ago. And everyone’s been talking about this video being the new wave of citizen, presidential campaigning, one that is more pop, than political.
But is it just me, or does the video place Obama again at the center of his racial and gender stereotypes, especially when this young crooner explains her crush on Obama: “Black n sexy, you’re so fine.” A Black woman writing the same song would have made a metaphorical reference to Obama’s skin color, perhaps comparing it to caramel. It’s clear the “Black n sexy” is meant to remind us not that Barack has smooth brown skin, but that he is a Black man and the woman singing is not. Isn’t that soo funny?
I’m all down for mixing pop culture and presidential politics, especially to reach new demographics. But let’s not be fooled. What may seem so cutting edge, like in this case, is actually evoking the same tired race and gender roles and taboos to gain appeal. Not so new wave to me.
You watch and see.

Yes, indeed, Senator Obama may very well run for election. He apparently has enough money to do so, but will he be "allowed" to win the presidency?

Ireland has just elected their first black mayor, a man who has only been in their country for six years!
South Africa elected a man as president of the country, who had been in jail for 26 years.
These two countries are moving forward without making race an issue. They chose the men they felt best suited for the job.
Another African country elected a woman as president. And so did Isreal.
What is it about America, that we cannot get beyond race, when we chose our elected officials?
The stupidity about race is going to sink us to depths from which we may never recover until it is too late to do so. Other countries have learn to go with the best candidates regardless of the color of their skin. And they are prospering.
America is so drenched in racial hatred a white man would rather drown than grab the hand of a non white who reached out to save his life. A sad commentary for a country that claims to be so very color blind. I brakes my heart to watch us
"dummy down" before the rest of the world. SIGH! sigh

Oh, c'mon this is funny! Get a sense of humor! I'm as radical as the next guy and am sensitive on race issues being a black women. But sometimes I think that it's ok to just get your laugh on.

That was a very creative approach to his political campaign. Time will tell it it was a good strategy or a liabiity.
