Media Companies File Motion to Open Jena 6 Trial To Public
The Chicago Tribune, along with the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, Associated Press, ABC News, CNN, and other media corporations, have filed a First Amendment petition to bring the Jena trial into the open. The motion challenges the decision of Judge Mauffray, who closed the proceedings on Mychal Bell’s case and ordered all parties not to speak about it. Chicago Tribune

Obama expressed his discontent at Voting Section Chief, John Tanner’s comments that photo identification was not necessary for minority voters because ‘they die first’. Tanner remarked that, “Our society is such that minorities don’t become elderly the way white people do; they die first.” The Justice Department defends Tanner, suggesting that his comments were misunderstood.
