Race: It’s Complicated
Despite Disney’s history of racist characters (Thanks Carmen), Maya Wiley points out that Disney’s most recent success, High School Musical, silences the racial and class tensions of their multiracial cast.
At the Movement Vision Lab, Wiley writes:
Examining race, talking about it, and including it in our strategies to save the environment or create more shared wealth, require us to reject the vision of “High School Musical.” And we must know that this rejection means that the high school should look different…A messy, complicated and healthy high school, indeed.
