Pat Buchanan: Black People Should Be Grateful

As the coverage continues after Barack Obama’s speech on race, Pat Buchanan, the cantankerous conservative, writes in his syndicated column, “A Brief for Whitey,” that “White America needs to be heard from, not just lectured to.”

He continues,

First, America has been the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that 600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known.

Wright ought to go down on his knees and thank God he is an American.

Second, no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the ’60s on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream.

I wonder if Pat Buchanan knows Obama’s grandmother.

Not shocking. Very Annoying. What really can you say.

After hearing the responses to Obama's speech from the usual conservative suspects, it's indicative of how twisted many people's views of reality have become. And it's sobering just how much work we're going to have to do to turn things around.
For a very different take on Obama's speech, anti-racist writer Tim Wise, ups the anti of truth telling in his hard-hitting essay "Of National Lies and Racial Amnesia: Jeremiah Wright, Barack Obama, and the Audacity of Truth," where he states: "Indignation doesn't work for most whites, because having remained sanguine about, silent during, indeed often supportive of so much injustice over the years in this country--the theft of native land and genocide of indigenous persons, and the enslavement of Africans being only two of the best examples--we are just a bit late to get into the game of moral rectitude. And once we enter it, our efforts at righteousness tend to fail the test of sincerity." Check out the full text at http://www.timwise.org/

Uhhh... So he's saying that African-Americans need to give thanks to White folks for slavery?

Next, is he going to be asking for a reprieve on the Nazis, by the Jewish people, for the creation of the state of Israel?
