Without National Debate, Immigration Protests Seem Smaller
Immigration reform has not been made a priority in presidential debates. “In many cities, including New York, Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles, crowds were a small fraction of those in previous years, with few people outside protest areas even aware that marches were under way.” New York Times.
Voting Rights Are Too Important to Leave to the States
Adam Cohen writes in response to the recent Supreme Court decision, “If the courts won’t protect voters, Congress has to. The Constitution, in Article 1, Section 4, gives Congress broad authority to set the rules for federal elections. It should use this power to set minimum voting rights standards that would apply nationwide and ensure that all eligible Americans could vote.” New York Times.
