Obama Speaks at UNITY to Jounalists of Color

obamapress.jpg

The media followed Barack Obama on his trip abroad and (fortuntely for him) they are praising it as a successful trip. After a whirlwind international tour, Obama will join members of the press of color on Sunday to deliver a speech at Unity in Chicago.

The event, sponsored by an alliance of minority journalists called UNITY, will be broadcast live on CNN Sunday morning. The gathering’s organizers also extended an invitation to John McCain.

UNITY says it represents nearly 10,000 members of the Asian American Journalists Association, the National Association of Black Journalists, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the Native American Journalists Association.

Colorlines Magazine Managing Editor Daisy Hernandez will also moderate a panel at Unity this weekend.

Intersections will host a panel discussion, “Challenging White
Privilege Through Activism and Media”,
at the upcoming 2008 Unity
Journalist of Color Inc conference in Chicago. This is certain to be
a dynamic and thought provoking experience; offering perspective from
organizations and movements at both the grass roots and national
levels on addressing the marginalizing effects of mainstream media and
power.
