Race Records: 10 Years Since “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill”

It’s been ten years since Lauryn Hill came on the scene and blew away the music industry with her solo album sweeping the Grammys with 11 nominations and 5 wins, including Best Album of the Year.

The album, a reference to Carter G. Woodson’s book The MisEducation of the Negro, influenced music in a way that many of us are dying to see happen again.

The Root’s Abdul Ali suggests that Erykah Badu has come and filled the gap that Hill left when she fled the spotlight. And if you have seen Ms. Badu perform you may agree.

I don’t think Lauryn Hill can ever be replaced, but who may be the next big thing?
