Four Little Girls Who Changed the World

fourlittlegirls.jpg

On September 15, 1963, members of the Ku Klux Klan bombed the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Four little Black girls, none older than fourteen years old, were killed in that bombing. Their deaths, like the death of Emmett Till rocked international headlines and marked a major turning point in the civil rights movement.

Angela Davis and Condoleeza Rice, both history-makers in her own right, were friends of those four girls who died 35 years ago. Each has talked about a connection to the tragedy, but they have taken two very different paths in life. It makes me wonder about the great women that they became in the face of injustice and the greatness that we will never know from their friends who died going to Sunday School.
