UPDATE: Troy Davis Granted Stay of Execution

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a stay of execution for Troy Anthony Davis less than two hours before he was to be put to death by lethal injection.

Davis’ family and supporters, who for years have pressed for a new trial on claims Davis is innocent, broke into tears and song when they learned the high court had at least temporarily postponed the execution. [Atlanta Journal-Constitution]

What has happened to Mr. Troy Davis is yet another compelling reason why I do not support the Death Penalty. Hopefully, the U.S. Supreme Court will open the door for a new trial for Mr. Davis.

America has demonstrated such moral bankruptcy over the past several years. What a miracle that reason, morality and hope has shown itself in the case of saving Troy Davis from a barbaric, flawed system. Thank you Supreme Court and thank you to Troy's family and supporters for not giving up!
