On Monday, the ACLU of Southern California released a report on the LAPD that showed statistically significant racial disparities in policing that raise grave concerns that African Americans and Latinos in Los Angeles are, as we put it in the report, “over-stopped, over-frisked, over-searched and over-arrested.” Los Angeles Times.
NYC Council Votes to Grant Bloomberg Third-Term
By a 29-22 vote, New York City council members made way for Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg to run for re-election, voting to revise a term limits law twice approved by voters that would have forced him from office next year. New York Times.
Chertoff Attacks Undocumented Workers Again
In a final attempt to crackdown on immigration, the Bush administration will ask a federal judge to lift an injuction imposed against the “no-match” rule after foes including the American Civil Liberties Union and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce sued to stop it last year. Los Angeles Times.
