Racist Republican Strategy Attracts Violent Supporters
H/T Huffington Post
John McCain seems to be cutting more people out of the country he wants to put first with racist insinuations of Obama’s “otherness.” Watch as he asks “Who is the Real Barack Obama, ” and someone in the crowd yells, “terrorist.”
Republican strategists argue that questioning the man’s character and calling the Democratic nominee a terrorist are all fair game in the race for the White House, but how does Sarah Palin respond when their supporters yell that Obama be killed—she does nothing.
The Washington Post reports on an incident during Palin’s speech at a rally,
“Now it turns out, one of his earliest supporters is a man named Bill Ayers,” Palin said. “Boooo!” said the crowd. “And, according to the New York Times, he was a domestic terrorist and part of a group that, quote, ‘launched a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and our U.S. Capitol,’” she continued. “Boooo!” the crowd repeated. “Kill him!” proposed one man in the audience.
Now that even Karl Rove’s numbers show that Barack Obama is leading in the race for the president, I am scared to see what the GOP may come up with next.

From the Washington TImes:
Worse, Palin's routine attacks on the media have begun to spill into ugliness. In Clearwater, arriving reporters were greeted with shouts and taunts by the crowd of about 3,000. Palin then went on to blame Katie Couric's questions for her "less-than-successful interview with kinda mainstream media." At that, Palin supporters turned on reporters in the press area, waving thunder sticks and shouting abuse. Others hurled obscenities at a camera crew. One Palin supporter shouted a racial epithet at an African American sound man for a network and told him, "Sit down, boy."

from Talking Points Memo:
After John McCain delivered the central question of his speech today -- "Who is the real Barack Obama?" -- the first, and loudest, supporter seems to yell: "Terrorist!"

from Huffington Post:
"[Obama] said, too, that our troops in Afghanistan are 'air raiding villages and killing civilians,'" Palin said, mischaracterizing a 2007 remark by Obama. "I hope Americans know that is not what our brave men and women in uniform are doing in Afghanistan. The U.S. military is fighting terrorism and protecting us and protecting our freedom." Shortly afterward, a male member of the crowd in Jacksonville, Florida, yelled "treason!" loudly enough to be picked up by television microphones.

Of course, the Democrats are doing the exact same thing, by calling John McCain names like "guy who was directly involved in a major S&L scandal, which set into action our current crisis," and "guy who was directly involved with Iran-Contra, which set into action our current crisis." When will Democrats learn that name-calling doesn't work, unless the names are short and easy to yell at a quiet point in a speech?
