Voter Suppression in 2008 Presidential Election

Voter suppression made headlines weeks before November 4th this year. One of the biggest stories was allegations that ACORN had committed voter registration fraud, and the cable news networks dragged it out for weeks. Although we’ve seen reports of the long lines at polling places, there were many other obstacles that disproportionately affected people of color and poor communities.

"Voter Turnout Best in Generations, Maybe Century"

Reuters is reporting that 56,000 calls were logged to more than 30 Election Protection groups that linked voters to trained legal volunteers.

Video the vote has a collection of hundreds of videos shot by volunteers documenting voter suppression and disenfranchisement at polling places.

On November 4th, the Los Angeles Times ran an opinion piece written by Martha Sanchez of ACORN addressing accusations of voting fraud.

The Advancement Project is doing everything they can to protect voters by taking irresponsible policy makers to court. They also have resources to inform and protect individual voters at http://www.justvote08.org/

The Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF) released a press release covering racist discrimination at the polls.

Huffington Post covers Fox New's report where Black Panthers were allegedly intimidating voters at the polls. The two men accused of voter intimidation, were certified poll watchers.
