ABC: Take “Homeland Security USA” reality show OFF the air!!

ABC is set to launch a new reality series in January ‘09 with the aim of making Americans “feel good” about the Department of Homeland Security. Rather than revealing the myriad human rights abuses committed by DHS in their day-to-day operations, this show only serves to glamorize DHS and further the misconception that immigrants are criminals. We firmly believe that this show should be taken off the air because of its intentional bias and promotion of intolerance.

Here’s a description of the first episode:

The premiere episode, “This is Your Car on Drugs,” takes viewers inside some of the busiest international entry points to the U.S. At Los Angeles International Airport, a voluptuous 20-year-old woman arrives from Switzerland with no working papers but a suitcase full of titillating surprises! In the Pacific Northwest, at the Blaine, Washington border crossing, smugglers attempt to foil DHS canines by packing narcotics in baby diapers. Along the border between the U.S. and Mexico in the scorching heat of the desert outside of Tucson, Border Patrol agents race the clock to find six undocumented immigrants lost in the barren wilderness. In one of the most dramatic stories at the San Ysidro, California border crossing, a fake license plate tips a border officer off to a life-threatening situation. Meanwhile, there are some unusual illegal items intercepted at the International Mail Center in Carson, California, including a “delicacy” officers are shocked to discover is actually barbecued bats. Hey Adams--typical comments from the uninformed. Have you seen the show? Let me guess...NO. You could not have seen the show, it's not airing yet. But still, you make up stuff. Where did you hear that the intent of the show is to make Americans feel good about the DHS? Because whatever idiot told you that was dead wrong. I worked on the show, and it's quite honest--you see every faction of the department, warts and all. How about we start a Facebook group to educate people like you? You have a lot of balls, complaining about bias and intolerance. Try watching the show, then complain.

Maybe the TV series will provide some education on the utility of suspicionless, internal checkpoints.

Here at home, US citizens are not required to carry proof of citizenship. The standard driver’s license does not prove citizenship- so how does a verbal citizenship check (Honor System) stop a terrorist?

Will the show cover the agent who was busted for downloading childporn while on the clock?

You have to be kidding me! DHS is saving lives everyday. It is a real shame that you pay taxes for an organization of such magnitude but have no idea of what it does. I suppose as long as you're alive and safe from tragedy you'll never understand. This is such common sense that I'm sure you would have no problem finding any reasonable Tyrone, Lyn, or Juanita that would tell you the same thing - if you could get out of your house to meet some people.

well, personally I believe that people who watch this show watch it for the same reasons that they watch cops and similar shows like it. It is a good show, it shows what the normal tv viewers love to see, "criminals" getting busted. Don't get me wrong, it does show the amazing tasks done by the men and women of the DHS. People don't usually get to see the amazing stuff that the DHS does such as finding lose immigrants. However this is not a good topic for a tv show because it in the middle of the controversial border fence and the controversial immigration problem. I do not believe that any of the messages above me show any disrespect for the DHS, however they stress the fact that the show is bias by only showing one side of this controversial topic
