GOP Racist Emailers Save Reputations with Snappy Apologies

When South Carolina GOP operative Mike Green was confronted with the above screenshot of his Twitter account, and asked if he had really ‘tweeted’ that, he answered

“I don’t know. Let me give you a call back.”

Nice save, dude.

Another South Carolina GOP activist, Rusty DePass, made the above comment on Facebook. When questioned,

DePass told WIS-TV in Columbia, "I am as sorry as I can be if I offended anyone. The comment was clearly in jest."

Then he added, "The comment was hers, not mine," claiming Michelle Obama made a recent remark about humans descending from apes. The Daily News could find no such comment.

[Note that he's sorry 'if' he offended anyone.]

Nice save, dude.

And finally, after Sherri Goforth, legislative aid for Tennessee state senator Diane Black, sent out the above image to her email list, she apologized by saying,

“I went on the wrong email and I inadvertently hit the wrong button.”

A nice and very classy save, Sherri.

Like Ann at Feministing says, I'd rather spend my time calling out widespread media narratives that are racist than concentrating on a few link-baiting crackpots. But three in a weekend? That's gotta be pretty close to a media narrative.

The whole thing is so silly, especially for people of color. I'm glad whenever people are outed, but, for God's sake, it's so obvious that alot of GOP'ers are serious racists.

Even (most) of the ones that try to act like they are not and are careful of what they say are usually betrayed by their body language or associates.

Tired, racial jokes? Those are the ones that got outed. As long as they stay in jest, I really don't care these days. I'm sure us POC's have rebuttals...

I agree with Chris. I think both Rusty and Sherri should be ashamed of themselves. Their apologies are sad excuses. For a great "Shame on You" vid, please access the following link:
