Andrew Golis forgot Tricia Rose, professor of Africana studies at Brown University. She's a leader in black popular culture, particularly hip hop. Her most recent book, The Hip Hop Wars: What We Talk About When We Talk About Hip Hop--and Why It Matters, is a progressive take on the hackneyed, simplistic controversies over hip hop in the last 15 years.
